Please Help Us Re-House Homeless Families, Including Those Affected by the Tornado
HAPHousing has been helping families out of homelessness for more than 25 years. Unfortunately, the number of homeless families is growing rapidly due to foreclosures, job loss, and, of course, the 2011 tornado. Months after the tornado, families who had doubled up with family or friends are now seeking help as they realize they cannot return to their damaged apartments. These families, as well as those made homeless by other circumstances, need your help to rebuild their lives and restore a sense of stability for their children.
How you can help:
Contribute Money! Your contribution is tax-deductible and will pay for security deposits, first month’s rent, utility hook-ups and other essential costs to re-house families displaced by the tornado. It will also help us allocate the staff required to organize the move and provide basic household goods to the families as they move in. Make your check payable to HAPHousing and address it to:
HAPHousing Tornado Relief, 322 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01105-2403.
Donate Household Items! All too many homeless families, including those impacted by the tornado, have lost all or nearly all of their possessions. Their needs are great and we are asking neighbors and friends to help outfit these families with basic household items . Our Household Essentials program collects and distributes furniture and household goods to those who lost everything. Please email Tyler Lawrence at tlawrence@haphousing.org now or call 413-233-1637 if you can help us obtain:
- Gently used furniture such as kitchen tables and chairs
- Small appliances
- Towels, sheets, blankets, & pillows
- Pots & pans, dishes & eating utensils
- Any other new or gently used household essentials.
Any help you can give us will be put to immediate use helping formerly homeless families find a safe place to rebuild their lives.
Ask your friends, family, church or civic organization to help with the collection and delivery of donated items. We have limited trucking capability, so your help with delivery is greatly appreciated. Arrangements to receive goods at our warehouse must be made in advance. Please email Tyler Lawrence at tlawrence@haphousing.org or call 413-233-1637.
